ABOUT Quick's Run Ranch
Quick's Run Ranch was established in 2010. After many years of living in the suburbs and moving often, we were able to purchase land in central South Carolina and begin developing the property for horses and Lowline Angus cattle.
I was having second thoughts about being able to handle animals that weighed so much when I came across an article about Kiko goats. I was hooked! Having worked 20 plus years with a Labrador Retriever breeder, I was very familiar with how genetics worked for the better - and worse - of a breed. The genetic foundation of Kiko goats was a dream come true. I wanted to be involved with continuing to improve the breed and selling breeding stock. |
I purchased my first 100% Kiko does in 2011. Two bucklings were acquired in 2012, and I had my first crop of Kiko kids in the spring of 2013.
In 2012, I also began purchasing mixed breed does for a commercial herd. I wanted to see how hybrid vigor worked by crossing these does with the Kiko bucks. Thirteen kids were born in the spring of 2013. My goal is to develop a herd of low maintenance does that will produce kids for the meat market.
As I learn more about goats and the serious problems that exist in some breeds, I believe it is imperative to continue developing the desirable characteristics that the Kiko breed is known for - parasite resistance, weight gain, good mothering qualities, and easy kidding.
Other breeds of goats, particularly Boer, when crossed with Kikos, can benefit from the Kiko characteristics and improve their own meat production.
This is why our motto is:
Kiko - the breed to lead!
